Nollywood stars at the premier of 'Bursting Out' and 'Holding Hope' in Lagos

I was at this fantastic, star-studded premier but I was only able to watch one movie - Bursting Out, starring Genevieve Nnaji and Majid Michel. Bursting Out is the first Nollywood movie I've watched in...years. I gave up on our local movies many years ago but I really enjoyed this one. I was really impressed. Now I'm thinking about getting back to watching our local movies. This movie kinda restored my faith in Nollywood.

Genevieve was fantastic in this movie and I saw that Ghanaian actor, Majid Michel in action for the first time and he blew me away with his acting. The story line was great, with unexpected pleasant surprises.

All in all, a great movie. A must watch!

There's a video circulating the internet about 'sexual harassment allegation leveled against a lecturer at the Ambrose Ali University Ekpoma, Edo State, Nigeria. Investigation conducted since the release of the video has confirmed that the man appearing in the video is Engineer P.O Otubu of Elec./Elect Engineering Department.

It's such a sad video to watch. Very dehumanizing. Efforts are being to get the lecturer's side of the story, so hopefully we will get the full details of what really happened.

The Federal Government recently released the list of recipients for 2009 National Honours Awards. There are twenty two awardees for Members of the Federal Republic (MFR). Among the recipients is Nollywood actor, Chinedu Ikedieze aka Aki, a graduate of Mass Communication from the Institute of Management Technology (IMT),

“I see my name on the list of Nigerian for the award of Member of the Federal Republic of Nigeria [MFR]. It's Gods way of repaying me for all my effort towards and contribution to the growth of Nollywood in the country and the world in general,” Aki Said

What a lot of people in Nollywood don't understand was how Chinedu made the list when several veterans who started the race before him have not even been considered for the honours.

But that is not where I am coming from. It's not how long, but how well, right? My question is; is it fair for Government to have given Chinedu National Honour while ignoring Osita, (Paw Paw)? They started their careers same time, featured in the same movies, won many awards...so why ONLY Aki?

That our Nollywood divas are well respected anywhere they go is not in doubt. The reason is because; they are seen as screen goddesses or celebrities. One of the beautiful faces that adorn the four walls of the movie industry, Lilian Bach recently threw sanity to the wind as he engaged in a show of shame as she fought with a petrol station attendant somewhere around Ikeja area of Lagos over a N100 balance.

The young boy who sold the petrol to her, according to report, failed to give her the balance of N100 and he was said to be attending to another customer. In a rage manner, Lilian allegedly stormed out of the car and asked the guy the reasons he failed to hand over her balance of N100 to her. Sensing that Lilian wasn’t in a mood to joke at all, the guy started murmuring but the screen idol gave no hoot about that as she made sure she got her balance from her before leaving the place.

While some People who gather to witness the scenario, we learnt, felt real bad about Lilian’s frugal instinct displayed, some just see it as one of the stupid Africa mentalities whereby they feel ‘changes’ are not meant to be collected by celebrities because they don’t work for their money. Lilian, to me, is just being careful managing resources so as to provide for the future. No one should blame her for that action!

The search for the next Elite Model from Nigeria is on, and things are getting really exciting. The casting session for this year’s competition will be taking place at the Rehab Pool Lounge & Bar from July 9 to July 10 2010. On each of those days, the panel of judges will meet and evaluate the hundreds of hopeful models. According to the PR representative of Elite Model Look Nigeria/Beth Models – Morsi PR, there are exciting incentives for girls to participate in the model search. A Blackberry Smartphone will be given out to one lucky participant and five lucky girls would stand a chance of being the face of Hair Limited. Two girls will receive a set of Sacred Lashes each and will both be featured on the international brand’s website.In addition, several Nigerian designers and stylists on the lookout for new talent will be attending the casting. Beth Modeling Agency has the sole rights to hold the annual Elite Model Look competition in Nigeria. This competition has produced two international models namely – Tracy Onyekachukwu (Elite Model Look Nigeria 2008) and Annette Begg (Elite Model Look 2009).

A recent study determined that 'drink EIGHT glasses of water a day' is more urban myth than science-backed.

Concerned parents in Nigeria have called on the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Association of Movie Producers (AMP) and other stake holders in the film industry, to call popular actors, Chinedu Ikedieze and Osita Iheme aka Aki and Pawpaw, to order.

The concerned parents want the actors to play consistent roles in movies. They either take the role of kids or that of adults. The parents said that since they started as kids in their first movie, a lot of kids at home see them as peers and as a result, imitate most of the things they do in movies. But now the actors take romantic roles and other adult roles that children shouldn't emulate, and the inconsistency is a threat to children who don't want to believe that they are adults. They even did sweet advertisements meant for children.

Sometime last year, the Actor's Guild of Nigeria Board of Trustees headed by Prince Ifeanyi Dike, made a move to ban the actors from taking adult roles, but they were later pardoned when their fans pleaded with the board.

Ibori’s Mistress Found Guilty, To Be Sentenced On Monday

A London court today found guilty Udoamaka Onuigbo, the mistress of former governor of Delta State, James Ibori, who has been standing trial for money laundering.

The Southwark Crown Court, London, had yesterday found Ibori’s sister, Christie Ibori-Ebie guilty of all charges of money laundering and mortgage fraud levelled against her.

Ms Pogoson, the third accused person and personal assistant to Ibori when he was governor, was, however, acquitted on one of the counts yesterday.

The trio have been facing a three-count charge since 19 December, 2007. They were charged for allegedly conspiring together with Mr. Ibori to defraud the Delta State government.

They were accused of helping Ibori to transfer about 70 million pounds into some accounts in London banks.

Reports have it that Christie and Udoamaka will be sentenced on Monday next week.

Ibori himself has been evading arrest since 2007 to go and face trial in London. The former governor, who has been eventually arrested in Dubai, may be extradited to London to face trial.

Two contestants at the on-going Gulder Ultimate Search: Celebrity Showdown, Gift Nyame a.k.a. Muma Gee and Chioma Chukwuka-Akpotha, have been evicted, but the reaction of star actor, Emeka Ike following their dismissal triggered mixed feelings from viewers.

Emeka Ike surprised a couple of his fans when he wept after he heard that Muma Gee had been evicted.

The action has triggered mixed feelings from viewers. While some criticised the actor for crying openly over the eviction of Muma Gee, others said he was only expressing his feelings.

The closeness between Emeka and Muma Gee before her eviction had generated controversy in the Ultimate Search camp to the extent that both of them were alleged to have been naughty in the camp.

Although both of them have denied this allegation, those who saw Emeka weep like a baby, following Muma Gee’s eviction, have suggested that the allegation may not be far from the truth .“I was really surprised that he could weep for Muma Gee like that. Anyway, I see his action in two ways; it is either a scripted order from the organisers or Emeka is truly in love with the singer as alleged.

“He should have controlled himself because his grown up kids and wife will be watching him at home crying over another woman. It is unfortunate,” a fan told us.

Reacting to the issue, another fan who identified himself as Dotun said there is nothing wrong if Emeka Ike expresses his feelings by weeping for Muma Gee.

“After all, we have seen him weep in movies. I think it is more of a personal thing,” he said.
